Is That Smart Elevator System Hacking Into Your Smart Phone?

For those of us that live in the city, we know how aggravating it can be when we are trying to make a phone call, but we still have to get onto an elevator. Sometimes you get your call dropped while you're in the elevator, and other times the signal stays strong, the problem is you don't always know. Further, you don't know who's in the elevator, and you have to be careful that loose lips don't sink ships. Not to mention the fact that it is kind of rude to carry on a conversation with a bunch of other people in an elevator.

There are a few companies that have a strategy to prevent such challenges. What they plan on doing is something similar to the commuter trains, where they have active Wi-Fi so you can use your personal laptop, tablet, or smart phone and peruse the news, text message, e-mail, or stay in contact with your office. Yes, that's a wonderful thing, especially because in most states you don't dare send a text message while driving, and it is even considered now; less than professional to talk on the phone while driving even with a special ear piece, not to mention it looks funny because everyone thinks you're talking to yourself, and maybe you are, I don't know you.

Nevertheless, there was an interesting article in Market Wire Press Release Online Network recently on August 11, 2011 titled; "New 'Innovation Factory' Elevator Labs Launches - LA-Based Team of Media and Technology Executives Raises $20 Million for Invention and Operation of New Media Companies," which stated that the company Virgin Digital is taking elevator technologies to a higher level (pun intended). The article noted that; "The Elevator Labs portfolio currently includes: Hello Music, Online Interactivity, and Cloud Based Tools, as well."

Okay so, this opens up another huge problem, how do you know someone isn't hacking into the elevator system, just as hackers like to hang out at cyber cafes to break into people's tablets and laptops? That's a scary thought isn't it? Well, it appears that these companies believe they can solve that problem, and that's a good thing. Yes, it's one more excellent convenience for the super busy multi-tasker running around with their pants on fire trying to do business at the speed of thought.

We will see how this plays out into the future, and how secure such a system might actually be. If it works, it will solve the frustration of many people who are busy and on the go, and are tired of getting their calls dropped in elevators. I just hope they watch where they're going, and they don't block me in when I reach my floor. Please consider all this and think on it.
